A two-year-old tech-based logistics startup from Lahore, Swyft Logistics, has come out with a commendable ‘period policy’ where women can now take ‘Monthlies,’ a total of 12 days of period leaves in a year.
Swyft Logistics workforce comprises 30% of female employees, and the latest policy is to cultivate a culture of acceptance and trust. Today, female employees can take days off work without pretending to be sick or stuck in some emergency when on their period.
We take pride in being Pakistan’s first company to introduce a period policy to create a happier, healthier, and more productive work environment for women.

Stigma Around Menstruation in Pakistan
Even today, the stigma around menstruation linger’s in Pakistan. From buying sanitary napkins to taking leaves from work, women still suffer from an ample amount of embarrassment. If we want women to work comfortably, we have to accommodate them without ignoring their physiological traits.
The CEO of Swyft, Muhammad Uns, says that the policy was specifically designed to combat this stigma.
“I have managed many female members of staff over the years, and I have seen women at work who are bent over double because of the pain caused by their periods. Despite this, they feel they cannot go home because they do not class themselves as unwell, and this is unfair.”

“At Swyft Logistics, we are very understanding. If someone is in pain – no matter what kind – they are encouraged to go home. But, for us, we wanted a policy in place which recognizes and allows women to take time for their body’s natural cycle without putting this under the label of illness.”
Here’s to hoping that more organizations/companies in Pakistan follow in the footsteps of Swyft Logistics and allow female employees paid leaves for when they are on their period and require time off from work. In many parts of the world, period leave is mandated by the government and sometimes also by employers themselves. However, it is still a topic that sparks discussion worldwide.
