Hayat was previously seen in Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Ms. Marvel series.

Mehwish Hayat played a significant role in the Ms. Marvel series, which marked her entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She portrayed Aisha, the great-grandmother of the main character Kamala Khan, who is played by Iman Vellani. Aisha’s character is central to the show’s plot, as she is linked to the mysterious bangle that gives Kamala her superpowers.

In the series, Aisha is shown as a member of the Clandestines, a group of Djinn who were exiled from their dimension and are seeking a way back home. Her story is deeply intertwined with the history of the partition of India, adding a rich cultural and historical backdrop to the narrative.

Hayat’s portrayal of Aisha received praise for bringing depth and emotion to a character that is both enigmatic and essential to Kamala’s journey as a superhero. Her performance added a layer of gravitas to the series, showcasing her versatility as an actress in a globally recognized franchise.

Ms. Marvel was directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, a Pakistani filmmaker known for her work in documentaries and socially relevant films. This collaboration between Hayat and Obaid Chinoy brought significant representation of South Asian culture to the Marvel universe, making it a landmark moment in the MCU.
