Fauzia Qazi is a Pakistani entrepreneur who has made waves in Gilgit Baltistan. The trailblazer first made her mark when she started her own travel company by the name of Rove Pakistan Travel & Tour.

After successfully running her tourism business, she noticed that tourists were highly interested in bringing back dry fruits and organic honey from their trips, particularly as gifts.

Spotting a new business opportunity, Fauzia Qazi established her second venture called Nature’s Best which sells dried fruits, honey, and oils.

Unfortunately in Pakistan, only 1% of women are engaged in entrepreneurial activities, as opposed to 21% of men, according to care.ca which means Fauzia is one of the handfuls of women who have taken up the task of becoming successful entrepreneurs.

Initially, Fauzia was very scared to start her businesses, “The biggest hurdle I faced was the element of fear, and whether I would be able to achieve my goal. I broke that barrier,” she shared.

The low representation of women in business and Fouzia’s initial fear can be explained in part by the cultural practice in Pakistan of men making all the decisions both at home and in business. “In the two businesses I am solely responsible for all the analysis and I make a lot of the decisions on my own,” she added.

“It is more difficult for women than men to get a business loan as women rarely own any assets to use as collateral. Literacy and less knowledge about financial procedures is another impediment, as well as the lack of a guarantor,” Fouzia explained.

However, with all the hurdles that came her way from her fears to COVID-19 and more, Fauzia has proved that if you are determined, you’ll go a long way.
