The government of Pakistan has announced a 5-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 2023. Clerics had predicted earlier that Eid 2023 will fall on Saturday, 22nd April this year.
The Secretary-General of the council, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, announced that a committee meeting has been scheduled on Thursday, April 20th, to observe the Shawwal moon.
If the crescent is spotted on Thursday evening, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, April 21st. However, he stated that it was unlikely for the moon to be sighted on the same evening.
Hence, Eid is expected to be celebrated on April 22nd after completing the 30 days of fasting during the holy month of Ramazan.
As per the council’s prediction, the birth of the moon is likely to occur on Thursday, April 20th, at 9:13 am Pakistan time. To be seen, the moon’s age at sunset on the 29th of Ramazan should be more than 19 hours, which is not possible in all regions of Pakistan as it will be less than 10 hours.

In Peshawar, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Charsadda, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Quetta, and Jiwani, the difference between sunset and moonset should be more than 40 minutes, but it will only be 21 minutes. In Lahore and Karachi, it will be 20 minutes.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated as the end of Ramazan, a holy month in which Muslims fast from dawn till dusk. The festival is observed with prayers, family gatherings, and feasting.
The beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal is marked by the sighting of the crescent moon, determining the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr 2023.
