Cynthia Ritchie Joins PTV, Twitter Questions if Pakistani Filmmakers & Writers can Join BBC or ABC as Easily

US blogger, writer, and filmmaker Cynthia Ritchie has reportedly joined state-owned broadcaster Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).  Ritchie will be conducting a program on PTV-World in the near future.

Cynthia D Richie is also an American journalist based in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Cynthia Ritchie wrote in a tweet: “Delighted to join World PTV”.  It is no secret that the PTV’s position was not as great as other broadcasters in the country. Surely, Ritchie’s joining might as well add up value.

Generally, not many Pakistanis are adamant about joining the state-owned network, nor did they give it any importance, but once the report of an American journalist joining the network surfaced, people questioned the state’s decision to take her on board.

They also wondered that if American journalists settled in Pakistan can acquire a job at a state-owned channel, can Pakistani journalists do the same at British Broadcasting Company (BBC) or American Broadcasting Company (ABC).

Producer/Broadcaster Ahmer Khan wrote on Twitter: “I wish it was as easy for a Pakistani writer and filmmaker to get a job at BBC or ABC. But I guess being a white woman in Pakistan with a pinch of drug abuse fast tracks the whole process!”

In June 2020, Cynthia accused PPP leader Rehman Malik of abuse and the former federal minister, Makhdoom Shahabuddin, and ex-prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani of “physically manhandling” her when she was staying at the President’s House in 2011.

Two weeks ago, in Islamabad, Cynthia was found unconscious and was admitted to Polyclinic hospital in the Federal Capital for treatment.
