Clay Handi Restaurant, based in New York’s city Buffalo is popular for serving desi food in clay pots and popularising Pakistani culture.
The art of pottery has been present in every society in the world, but in the sub-continent of Asia, it transformed into beautiful artwork and dishes during its peak. Within Pakistan, clay pots/dishes are quite popular, not just for cooking food but also for storing drinking water.
It wasn’t easy for the restaurant owners to bring clay pots from Bahawalpur, Pakistan to the States. They paid $17,000 to the FDA for approval of the clay pots, ensuring customers that they are safe to be eatan from.
The menu at the restaurant includes most Pakistani dishes such as Biryani, Nihari, Kofta, Haleem, etc. The restaurant has a van parked outside the restaurant called ‘Jugni’ – covered in truck art, which adds up to the place’s specialty.
It does make overseas Pakistani reminisce fond memories of home. The restaurant’s concept is so unique that you may also witness the locals enjoying the experience too.
