In a world that celebrates diversity and uniqueness, it is important that we strive for an inclusive society where everyone has a voice and an opportunity to connect. In Pakistan, as in many parts of the world, individuals with different abilities often face challenges related to social isolation and lack of resources. However, the digital age has given rise to platforms that are dedicated to addressing these issues and fostering a sense of community. One such initiative, “Dismatched,” is at the forefront of this transformation.
What is Dismatched?
Dismatched is a unique initiative that is providing a secure platform for individuals with different abilities to express their concerns and find the support they need. These individuals are able to connect with each other virtually and be there for each other, support one another through their times of need. Dismatched is a community of special people with different abilities, a safe haven for such likeminded individuals to come together and have the chance to find the support they need.
Just recently the Dismatched tribe had its very first virtual meetup. Details of the meetup were shared on their official page.

A Platform for Fostering Connections
Dismatched holds profound importance in Pakistan as it provides a crucial platform for fostering connections and support among individuals with varying abilities. This is the first time that any such platform has been created for people with any sort of disabilities. In a society where people with disabilities often face numerous challenges, from limited accessibility in public spaces to the social stigma attached to disabilities, this initiative offers a secure space for them to share concerns, seek assistance, and find a sense of community.
Dismatched not only empowers individuals with disabilities to express themselves but also raises awareness about their unique needs and challenges, promoting a more inclusive and empathetic society. Such initiatives are vital in Pakistan to ensure that every individual, regardless of their abilities, can lead a fulfilling and dignified life, free from discrimination and isolation.
Meet Dismatched Founder: Amna Raheel
The mastermind behind Dismatched is a young woman, Amna Raheel whose life took a challenging turn when she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at age two, and later developed lordosis, leaving her wheelchair-bound by the age of 12.
Growing up, she faced not only physical obstacles but also the emotional struggle of being different from her peers, enduring taunts and jeers. Her experiences in Karachi, a city lacking accessibility for wheelchair users, deepened her understanding of the difficulties people with disabilities encounter daily. Nonetheless, she exhibited extraordinary resilience, earning her BBA from a top Pakistani university and pursuing an MBA, showcasing the power of determination in the face of adversity.
