In an unfortunate incident yesterday (25th March), an angry mob vandalized an upscale Karachi eatery located at Tipu Sultan Road by the name of Angeethi.
Videos of the act of rage have been circulating on social media since. The restaurant has taken out a statement as to what caused the incident.
Reportedly, some of their employees were playing cricket with local boys after duty, but in uniform. They got into a physical fight while playing and as result, the gully cricket boys brought some other people and started to create a ruckus at the restaurant.
The notice shared by Angeethi reads:
‘We are writing this post with a heavy heart to inform you that our restaurant was recently attacked by a violent mob. This was a shocking and traumatic experience for our staff and customers, and we are grateful that no one was physically harmed during the incident.

“The attack was in retaliation to a physical fight our staff members had while playing cricket the night before outside the premises of the restaurant. The staff members were not on shift but in the restaurant’s uniform. The restaurant had nothing to do with the whole situation yet was made a target of the outburst of aggression to these individuals. The situation has been handled and the law will take its course.
“As a small business that takes pride in providing a welcoming environment and delicious food for our community, this attack is deeply upsetting. It is disheartening to see our hard work and dedication to our community met with violence and aggression.
“We want to thank the community for their outpouring of support and kindness in the aftermath of this attack. We are committed to getting back on our feet and continuing to serve our community. We ask for your continued support during this difficult time. Together, we can show that violence and aggression have no place in our community.”

According to SSP East Zubair Nazeer Shaikh “They (passersby) went back and brought around 20-25 men armed with sticks who attacked the restaurant, vandalised it, and injured one employee before fleeing away,” he said.
SSP Shaikh said the restaurant administration did not want to pursue the case. “Therefore, the police have registered an FIR (first information report) on behalf of the state against two dozen persons over charges of riot,” he added.
According to the FIR, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Azam Mirza lodged a complaint with Ferozabad Police Station under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of the offence committed in prosecution of common object), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 337-A (i) (Shajjah) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
