A clip of Pakistani politician Miftah Ismail has been making rounds on social media. In the clip, the politician can be seen standing behind Sania Ashiq, another politician, while PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz addresses the media during a press conference.
At one point, the politician is seen wiping his face and nose with what internet users claim is Ashiq’s dupatta. The clip making rounds on social media doesn’t clearly show whether it was Ashiq’s dupatta or not; regardless, Miftah Ismail is receiving criticism online for it.
A user wrote, “I see a lot of people are taking this as a joke, but this is totally unacceptable, irrespective of party affiliation. No man has the right to touch a woman’s clothing.”

To clear the air, the politician tweeted saying, “A video shows me wiping my face with my sister @SaniaaAshiq ’s dupatta.” He explained that he thought he had reached in his pocket for a tissue but unknowingly picked up her dupatta, “As seen, I reached in my pocket, got a tissue & wiped my face. 2nd time I unknowingly picked up her dupatta on the tissue to wipe my face.”
He then concluded his tweet by saying that he apologized to politician Sania Ashiq, “Of course, I apologised to her when I saw it.”

Clearly, the internet is not buying Miftah Ismail’s side of the story.

In a first for Pakistan, a woman named Heer Soho has been appointed the chief of her tribe in the southern Sindh province. For Soho, it is a tremendous honour. Heer Soho is a lawmaker at the provincial assembly of Sindh. Similar to all cases, Soho also had a robust support system – her family and the community members in running the clan’s affairs. The previous chief of the tribe and Heer’s father, Muhammad Ismail Soho, passed away in February due to coronavirus.
