18-years-old Perniya Zaman Khan has become Pakistan’s table tennis champions. The Dexterous WAPDA’s player claimed the title by defeating former National Champion Aisya Sherjeeal, also from WAPDA, in the thrilling 4-3 final.
The results came in after the National Master Cup Table Tennis Tournament 2021 wrapped up at Olympian Lala Rafique Sports Arena, Qayyum Sports Complex, Peshawar, in abundant enthusiasm. Khan has previously earned the title of national junior champion and won a bronze medal at the 13th South Asian Games. She was home with 11-13, 14-12, 9-11, 13-11, 15-13, 11-9, 17-15.
Great recognition for Pakistan as news of more women participating in national and international sports all across Pakistan has been coming in frequently. Other than Perniya Zaman Khan, Shah Khan, another promising player from Pakistan WAPDA, effortlessly crushed the current national champion and top-seeded of the Master Cup Faizan Zahoor of Pakistan Army by 4-0, the score was 11-9, 13-11, 15-13 and 11-9.
Khanzeb Khan, who is the former director-general sports and secretary establishment engineer attended the match as a chief guest. Other important people present at the event were Chairman KP Table Tennis Association, former Chief Commissioner Right to Information, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Youth Ambassador of the US Embassy in Pakistan Absar Ali, Director Tournament Jabir Ali and SVP KP Table Tennis Association Kifayat Ullah Orakzai.
Pakistani WAPDA Boys Team Won Big!
WAPDA shocked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the boy’s team event final in a magnificent four sets battle 3-1. In the first singles, Shah Khan recorded victory against Ummam Khawaja. The score was (3-2) 1-9. 11-13, 11-13, 11-8 and 17-15.
The other singles were between the two cousins, Fahad Khawaja, who defeated Khawaja Haseeb Ur Rehman; the score was (3-1)11-9, 11-7, 13-11 and 11-8.
In the third singles, Shayan Farooq of KP beat Hafeez of Pakistan WAPDA. The score was (3-2) 13-11, 8-11, 11-13, 11-9 and 11-8 and in the end.
In the reverse singles between two brothers, Fahad Khawjah beat Ummam Khawjah, who is his younger brother, by 3-0; the score was 13-11, 13-11 and 11-9. Therefore, Pakistan Wapda won the Boys Team event final by 3-1.
