The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, has appointed Dr Saima Yasin as its first female engineering professor in 100 years.
In Pakistan, we see lesser women in the field of tech. It is mainly a field for men in the country, which holds great scope for them. With time, women have also entered the field and are ready to take up the challenge. One such step is taken by UET that has successfully appointed a female professor in its 100 years of existence.
The professor in the limelight is Dr Saima Yasin, who has joined the Chemical Engineering Department. This makes her the first professor of engineering at the oldest and largest seat of higher learning in engineering and technology since its founding.
Initially, the position was held by the Mughalpura Technical College in 1921.
The recent position overtaken by Dr Saima also makes her the first female professor of engineering in Punjab. The university Syndicate has appointed her as chairperson of the department as she is the only professor in her department of 23 teachers. This also makes her the first female chairperson of any engineering department at the UET and the province.
“Dr Saima has achieved an important milestone in the history of this great institution, and I’m pleased that it happened during my tenure as VC,” said Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar
