Weddings are super popular in Pakistan, and with each culture adding beautiful ceremonies and events, there is always that one aunty who has something to add.
With tradition comes superstitions that have been passed from generation to generation. While some of these are logical, several others are groundless and we think is about time we get something straight.
Debunking 5 Popular Shaadi Myths
1. Henna Colour Predicts the Bride’s Luck

No, the colour of your henna does not determine how much your hubby loves you, the colour is a result of the chemicals/ingredients used in the cone plus your body’s natural temperature, and of course, depends on the amount of time the henna is applied before washing.
Your husband’s love is something that is destined and something you both will have to communicate and work on together. Kapish? Plus, nowadays modern brides are skipping the traditional brown henna and replacing them with colourful patterns and designs.
2. Rice Throwing is Tied to Promises

In some cultures, the bride throws her hands full of rice behind her as she walks out of the venue with her husband. They say that the bride while throwing the rice promises to help her parents and stand with them whenever they need her.
While this is an innocent ritual, we don’t exactly need to throw rice to let our parents know that we won’t ever leave them, do we? Nonetheless, rice has nothing to do with promises and is just another cultural thing that has been passed down. However, we do suggest instead of wasting that rice, give it to a poor family instead.

3. Avoid Wearing Black During Wedding Events
While there is no scientific data present for this we can assure you wearing black to weddings is not bad luck. Many modern-day brides have shed the traditional red bridal wear and have opted for colours such as white, shades of purples, and blues, who says you can’t drop other colours for black?
4. Shedding Tears During Bidaai is a Must
No girl, if you are marrying the love of your life and you are happy, there is no pressure on you to cry (unless you want to). Emotional attachment is always a part of weddings and there are bound to be some tears here and there, but it is not a MUST.
5. Not Seeing Each Other Before the Wedding is Good Luck
You are going to spend the rest of your life with the other person, so how does not seeing them change anything? What is meant to be will be, good days and bad days will come and go, and seeing the bride-to-be or groom-to-be before the ceremonies will NOT make a difference.
