End of an Era: Strings’ Bilal Maqsood & Faisal Kapadia Announce Split After 33 Years

In a sad state of affairs, Pakistani pop-rock band, Strings’ Bilal Maqsood, and Faisal Kapadia have announced the end of their iconic music band. The news was announced just a few hours ago today on the band’s social media. Since then, thousands of people on social media are heartbroken.

The post said, Hey guys. This post is a bit different from the usual. We have decided that today, 25/03/2021, is the day we graciously get to conclude STRINGS.

The past 33 years have been incredible for both of us. It’s so rare to have the chance to be able to do things like this, and we are infinitely grateful to all of our fans for making it possible. We hope you found it worthwhile as well.

While the band technically may not be together anymore, both of us share an inseparable bond that will connect us no matter where life takes us.

The news broke our hearts! Strings is one of those bands in Pakistan that is rejoiced by huge audiences. Not only was their music enjoyed but also live the youth celebrated their performances.

The internationally acclaimed Pakistani pop-rock band also included four live band members from Karachi. The band was initially formed by four college students — Bilal Maqsood (vocals and guitars), Faisal Kapadia (vocals), Rafiq Wazir Ali (synthesizer), and Kareem Bashir Bhoy (bass guitar) — in 1988. In 1992 the quartet disbanded, only to make a comeback with Maqsood and Kapadia in 2000, says stringsonline.net

While the initial band rode the new wave of Pakistani pop music, the later lineup ushered a revival in the Pakistani music industry.

Uzair Jaswal & Sara Haider Recreate Old World Glamour In ‘Mere Dil Ne” For Velo Sound Station

Velo Sound Station produced by Bilal Maqsood and co-directed by Bilal Maqsood and Yair Jaswal released Episode 3 on Friday. Music lovers were blown away by the audio-visual artistry of the performances! Episode 3 transports audiences from 80s Pop to Broadway and old-world glamour with Uzair Jaswal and Sara Haider’s romantic and endearing duet ‘Meri Dil Ne’ with lyrics by Uzair Jaswal; composition by Bilal Maqsood and produced by Sarmad Ghafoor.

The love ballad with its big band anthem sound has a strong story-telling element to it with the two singers lovingly crooning about their past romance; about what could have been; and singing about the possibility of reconciliation. “It’s about the possibility of giving the past romance another chance” explains Uzair. “It’s about the one that got away,” adds Sara. The sweet interchange between the two singers has the feel and sound of an old black and white Hollywood musical which is enhanced by a centre-stage grand piano played by Sara and the expert choreography of every move across the stage and each subtle gesture moderated by the dynamic duo of choreographers Breakhna and Zarmeena of BZ Productions.

The retro glamour look decided by Bilal Maqsood, Yasir Jaswal and Fashion Director Ebtisam Ahmed had
Uzair’s swagger in a velvet tuxedo jacket looks replete with a bow-tie, all of which was styled by experimental maverick fashion designer Ebtisam Ahmed.

Says Uzair, renowned for his 2015 album ‘Ek Paheli Leela’ about the look and its correlation to the song:
“The song about an estranged couple romantically singing about the possibility of reconciliation required our formal, magical looks that complimented one another perfectly.” Sara Haider’s uber-glam retro look included a sleek, black one-shoulder asymmetrical knee-slit gown by a New York boutique paired with silver heeled boots retro-glam hair and make-up by Rashid. Says Sara: “The old school story-telling love ballad ‘Meri Dil Ne’ required a grand, romantic and princess-like style aura. We wanted to recreate the look and sound of an old Hollywood black and white movie, something celluloid and fairytale-like.”

Anwar Maqsood Reveals Why He Doesn’t Write Dramas Anymore, Heavily Criticizes the Drama Industry

Legendary Anwar Maqsood and his rockstar son, Bilal Maqsood, have been entertaining the audience on Instagram for some time now. Since the beginning of the lockdown, the duo has been coming live and shedding light on sensitive and important matters while displaying humor.

A clip from one of the Instagram live sessions has been making rounds on social media where we see Anwar Maqsood donned in a traditional outfit answering his fans’ questions. The witty artist got asked why he doesn’t write dramas anymore. He responded with utmost regret with just the right amount of amusement.

He said Ashfaq Sahab isn’t writing, Bano Qudsia isn’t writing, Munoon bhai isn’t writing, Intizar Hussain isn’t writing. All of them are dead. They took drama with them. Now there is no drama.

Speaking of the Pakistani drama industry’s current state, Anwar Maqsood said with regret that all he sees are commercials and ridiculous names of dramas on TV with mediocre storylines. He doesn’t seem to stand his work among the content that has been producing today.

“Now, there is no drama. I just analyze the names of dramas and commercials being aired on television. On Thursday night at 8:30 pm Tum Meray Paas ho, on Thursday night at 11 pm Mujhe Beta Chahiye, at 12 Namumkin, at 12:30 pm Cheekh, double episodes. After seeing such names, how can I write?” He said.

The masses might be fond of these dramas, but the young lot is definitely not interested. They are evolving, and it is just a matter of time that no one will be interested in watching these dramas that depict mediocre storylines. After all, a nation’s films and dramas depict their true culture, and we are more than these mediocre storylines. It is time for things to change.

Anwar Maqsood is part of the industry for a very long time now. He is a versatile artist entertaining the audience with his acting, comedy, scriptwriting, etc. Unfortunately, a treasure like him has stopped writing for the local tv.

Episode Two of Velo Sound Station Dovetailed Iconic Band ‘Strings’ with Singing Sensations Aima Baig & Shamoon Ismail For An Eclectic Musical Treat!

With the resounding impact and electricity generated with the debut episode of Velo Sound Station – Pakistan’s stellar digital music platform that celebrates contemporary music that reflects today’s Pop culture – music lovers were equally mesmerized by the three-class acts that feature in Episode Two that was released today on Friday, November 27th, 2020. Episode Two featured three original songs performed by iconic band STRINGS popular singer/songwriter, AIMA BAIG, and rising star SHAMOON ISMAIL.

Strings helmed by Velo Sound Station producer Bilal Maqsood and lead vocalist Faisal Kapadia performed the original  ‘Piyaar Ka Rog:’ which was written by Anwar Maqsood, composed by Bilal Maqsood, and produced by Usman and Haroon which had the band experiment with the contemporary genre of Synth Wave. Says Bilal: “Piyar Ka Rog is one of the songs that I made for my lockdown sessions on Instagram. It began as just a piano version. But now, with Faisal Kapadia’s vocals and full production, it sounds amazing!” String’s wardrobe was provided by designer to pop stars Ebtisam Ahmed (EB).

Aima Baig presented an original song entitled ‘Te Quiero Mucho (I  Love You So Much), written by Anwar Maqsood,  composed by Bilal Maqsood, and produced by Ahsen Pervaiz, which as its title suggests, had a very lilting Latin feel and vibe to it. Te Quiero Mucho ‘is a nod towards the popular contemporary music trend and global phenomenon of Latin-American hits such as ‘Havana’ by Camila Cabello; ‘Smooth’ by Santana and ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi, but imbues and invigorates the Spanish sound with a decidedly ‘desi ‘melody and flourish. Says Bilal about the popular singing sensation: “Aima Baig’’ is a born performer, and she outdid herself the way she performed and sang this song.  This time we saw a very different Aima’s wardrobe for her Velo Sound Station performance was specially created by Mavi Kayani.

Shamoon Ismail performed a song called ‘Confetti’ written, composed, and produced by the artist himself. Shamoon rendered Confetti in his own quirky and individualistic style. Avers Bilal about Shamoon. “There’s something very mysterious about the way Shamoon sings and performs.”Shamoon’s hip wardrobe was also specially designed by EB, Says Bilal about Episode Two as an overview: “All of the artists in Episode Two were included to give it color and variety. This episode’s soundscape had an interesting spectrum. All the songs fell into the current sphere of Pop music, but all had their own very distinct styles.”
