In her role as Meenu, Aly portrays a character challenging the norms of her conservative society. Meenu is a proponent of women’s education, supported by her father while facing opposition from the men around her.
“In our project [Zard Patton Ka Bunn], there are intense scenes, but Saife Hasan directed me to perform them simply. These everyday conversations are necessary because our society often avoids them,” Aly told Arab News at the drama’s official launch in Lahore. “Addressing these issues can hurt people’s egos. I hope the audience appreciates it and understands the solutions we propose through this story.”
Aly and the cast attended the event to raise awareness about women’s education, empowerment, maternal health, and population control.
Roshaneh Zafar, founder and managing director of Kashf Foundation, highlighted the media’s crucial role in spotlighting these issues. “Media has a vast reach. To bring about societal change, you need to reach households and living rooms,” Zafar explained. “Our goal was to bring real-life women’s stories to the screen, with substantial research backing each script.”
This drama marks the Kashf Foundation’s sixth TV project aiming at social change. Previous projects have addressed child abuse and human trafficking, subjects rarely depicted on screen.
“Zard Patton Ka Bunn” explores the impact of population growth on women and children and its broader implications. Zafar noted, “You have to make the story engaging while also educating the viewers. The drama incorporates various subplots.”
Hamza Sohail, who plays the male lead, Dr. Naufil, shared his enthusiasm for the project. “I agreed to this role immediately because I believe men in our society have a significant responsibility to advocate for these issues,” Sohail told Arab News. “As a media professional and artist, it’s crucial to use my platform to raise awareness.”
Describing his character, Sohail said, “Dr. Naufil is a principled man who stands against injustice and wrongdoing. The audience will see how his and Meenu’s paths intersect and how they collaborate to promote the message in ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’.”
