Pakistan woke up on Monday morning to the heartbreaking news of an incredible loss to our music industry. Musician Haniya Aslam suffered a cardiac arrest on 11th August and passed away as a result.
Aslam, known by the public for being a part of the successful duo Zeb-Haniya (2007-2014) has given us memorable tracks. In 20114, Aslam moved to Canada to pursue her studies and started her solo career.
Originally from Kohat, the Coke Studio famed musician has many incredible tracks under her name. Zeb and Haniya have also collaborated for Indian films including Madras Cafe and Highway.
The duo gained widespread popularity with their soulful tracks like ‘Paimona’, ‘Chal Diye’, and ‘Chup’, featured in Coke Studio Pakistan’s Season 2. Their energetic rendition of ‘Bibi Sanam’ further showcased their versatility and talent.
In addition to her musical prowess, Haniya was also a skilled sound engineer, contributing to the 2016 Pakistani short film ‘Lala Begum’. In the same year, She demonstrated her talent as a music producer for the romantic film ‘Dobara Phir Se’.
I’m not sure if I started pursuing music or music started pursuing me! I’ve always been really into music, almost to the level of obsession. I vaguely remember wondering how all the musicians fit inside a cassette tape when I was 4 or 5,” Haniya Aslam told Youlin Magazine in 2020.
Haniya Aslam’s cousin Zeb Bangash confirmed the news of her passing on social media with a couple of images and a simple caption “Hanini”.

Several artists and social media users took to the comments section and offered their prayers. “Inna lillahe wa inna ilaehe raje’oon – she was always so sweet and a brilliant talent – I’m so sorry for your loss and pray that Allah Pak gives you and the family sabr during this difficult time – Allah Pak Janat ul firdous main jaga dain Ameen,” a comment read.
“What an immense loss! She was a beautiful and talented soul. She will forever be missed. May Allah grant her soul eternal peace and you and the family the strength to bear this loss with fortitude,” a second person wrote. “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun… all my love to you Zeb. Your names are forever entwined in music and memory for me. So much love,” a third user said.
Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire expressed his grief on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing, “My dear friend Haniya Aslam (from Zeb and Haniya) has left us. She had a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace dear Haniya.”
Haniya’s death is a profound loss to the music community and her countless fans who admired her talent and warmth.
