The QS World University Rankings 2023 list is here and 13 Pakistani universities across the country have made it to the list. The annual listing is done by Quacquarelli Symonds on the basis of 3 important points, the global overall ranking, the subject rankings, and five independent regional tables (Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and Central Asia, the Arab Region, and BRICS).
Other ranking indicators also include the institute’s academic reputation, faculty reputation, employer’s reputation, citations per faculty, number of international students and faculty-to-student ratio.
This year, the number 1 university to topple all others was none other than the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) followed by the University of Cambridge at 2nd and Stanford Univerity at 3rd, the University of Oxford ranked 4th, Harvard University at 5th, California Institute of Technology at 6th, Imperial College London also at 6th, University College London at 8th, ETH Zurich at 9th, and the University of Chicago at 10th.

On the other hand, the university to outrank all Pakistani educational institutes was the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad at 334th/1500 making it one of the top 500 universities in the world.
Furthermore, other institutes that are a part of the top 500 in the list include Quaid-i-Azam University which ranked 363rd, and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) which ranked 390th.
