The 26-year-old Pakistani Cricketer and footballer, Diana Baig, has represented her country at the international level. Playing in the Defender position, Diana is one of the lucky few who have been included in the list of players by the Pakistan Football Federation.
The list consists of players who have successfully been selected by qualified coaches in the last edition of the National Women’s Football Championship and have been invited for the SAFF Women’s Championship trials in Nepal.
Diana Baig and other players were selected on the basis of their performance from the previous nationals.
The right-arm pacer was part of the Pakistan squad for the tri-series cricket tournament, which concluded yesterday, involving Australia and hosts Ireland.
Moreover, she is now in Birmingham to feature in the Commonwealth Games. Diana and the team will face Barbados on July 29th. Their next match will be against arch-rivals India on July 31st. In their final group-stage match, they will lock horns with Australia on August 3rrd. The knockout matches will take place on August 6th and 7th.
The PFF have also stated that int. players and recommendations made by club coaches will also be included in the trials. The trials will take place from July 24-28, 2022 in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. However, the trials in Karachi were postponed due to heavy rain with new dates set to be announced in due course.
This will be the first time in eight years that the Pakistan women’s team will participate in an international match. They last played during the 2014 SAFF Women’s Championship, which was hosted by Pakistan.
We wish Diana Baig all the very best and pray that she and her teammates continue to make Pakistan a proud nation, as they continue to inspire thee the future generation.
