Pakistani-Canadian Mahnoor Hussain has become the first Muslim national youth ambassador for Parks Canada.
Hussain is currently a student at Ryerson University and is going into her 4th year of the Public Health and Safety program this upcoming fall. While she studies in between the hustle and bustle of the city, she lives far from it in the quiet suburbs of Pickering, Ontario, with her family. For Hussain, the last two years have been interesting virtual experiences given the circumstances due to the pandemic.
Hussain wrote in a post that her love for the salty beaches and warm weather had begun some time ago when she was a kid living in Florida, “My love for the outdoors began on the salty beaches and warm weather picnics as a kid when my family was previously living in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Canada in 2007.”
Her future endeavours sound promising given her plans for public health, “Within the next few years, I am hoping to take my knowledge in public health and make connections between human health and the environment.”
Parks Canada Youth Ambassador 2021
Every year, the program offers three young Canadians between the age of 18-25, a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience and share Canada’s greatest national treasures by traveling across Canada and connecting with Canadian youth at Parks Canada locations.
To be a youth ambassador for Parks Canada this year is a huge opportunity for Hussain. She believes with the privilege at her hand; she will be able to reach out to thousands of youth across Canada and share her experiences with them, “The opportunity to be this year’s Parks Canada Youth Ambassador is a privilege. I am hoping to reach out to thousands of youth across Canada and share my experiences, all while trying to shatter any barriers between people and green spaces.”
She then added that “It is important to me that I take all the opportunities I get and make the most of them. These moments are most valuable when they can be shared with others. This year, I am thrilled to be sharing them with all of you!”
Hussain loves to kayak along the Rouge River in her leisure time and have movie nights with her family.
