A time without social media was different when criticism of someone’s work remained within exquisite industry circles and not disclosed to the general public. However, with everyone present on major social media platforms, a comment is all takes to light a fire.
On Thursday, model Eman Suleman, and celebrity stylists, Nabila and Fatima Nasir were caught up in a dispute on Instagram. Eman posted photos of her from a ‘Hollywood’s Legacy’ photoshoot donning in a Mohsin Naveed Ranjha’s number, hair, and makeup done by Fatima Nasir.
Nabila went on to criticize Fatima’s work. She said, “Great idea, executed badly… specially the ichra looking hairpiece.” She went on to add, “When the subject is so beautiful, it’s a sin to not up our game.” Eman responded promptly to the comment saying, “Nabila, I think it’s a job well done, better than any parlour could’ve done.”
This didn’t end here. Nabila then responded to Eman, “Agreed, but I’m sure you agree there is always room for improvement. In my opinion, the hair finish looks too synthetic and takes away from the regal styling. Obviously, we can choose to be reactive or grow from criticism. I prefer the latter.”
Obviously, at this point, Fatima had to jump in and speak of the matter at length. She wrote, “Her real hair is roughly 4-5 inches long, requires a lot of skill to even fake a hairdo like this, to be honest. Made this out of real hair extensions and paddings only, blended her short hair with the structure, didn’t use a wig. Still managed to achieve the hair reference I was given with ease. It’s a lot easier to just criticize someone’s work don’t you think? I bet 9 out of 10 artists won’t be able to achieve it.”
The hair expert didn’t seem to comprehend, “I see you choose to react and defend. All the best.” Fatima then said, “Not defending, it’s important to put yourself in another person’s shoes.” To this, Nabila ridiculed Fatima, “Dear I have been in these shoes for 35 years, just FYI.”
Fatima then replied, “It’s not even about the experience, it’s about the word ‘ichra’(a marketplace in Lahore) you used to describe my work, People forget what you say but they never forget how you make them feel. An artist can very talented/experienced etc but empathy is just as crucial.”
“Sorry if I hurt you but false empathy can be interpreted as false flattery in my dictionary. If I were you, I would investigate how I can improve my finishing skills but you are not me. Let’s leave it at this,” concluded Nabila.
All this while, more and more people joined the conversation and called out Nabila on her harsh comments and passed on remarks on her services. Models Farwa Ali Kazmi, Rehmat Ajmal, and Rubab Ali backed up Fatima. Eman also commented again saying, “Please, stop being so bitter”.
Fatima then said, “You’re very arrogant, I feel sorry for you! How come you never left a nice comment on our work ever but felt compelled to leave a nasty one today? You don’t even follow us. You are bitter indeed!”
