Maryam Nawaz Approves Laptop Scheme for Students after 7 Years

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a comprehensive reform package for the higher education sector, including the revival of the laptop scheme for students after 7 years. The scheme will provide the latest laptops to students across Punjab universities, enhancing access to technology and educational resources.

It is pertinent to mention that the ratio of female students in universities has surpassed that of male students, with 56% women and 44% men enrolled

During a crucial meeting, the chief minister emphasized the government’s vision to ensure the availability of international standard universities in every district and college at the tehsil level. The meeting also discussed plans for promoting higher education and providing laptop and transport facilities for students. Additionally, the government plans to establish new universities and colleges in backward districts on a priority basis.

Educational Emergency

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s declaration of “Educational Emergency,” highlighting the government’s determination to address challenges in the education sector. She stressed the need for a comprehensive revamp of the school and higher education sectors to meet the evolving needs of students and prepare them for the challenges of the future.

The Punjab government is also giving away 20,000 motorbikes to students across the province as part of its investment in the development of the knowledge economy and ICT education.

During the meeting, it was noted that the budget allocation for higher education has remained substantial during the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) governments. Statistics presented highlighted the enrollment in universities across Punjab, with over 650,000 students currently pursuing higher education.
