COVID-19 and training
While speaking to a local news outlet exclusively, Shahzad revealed how immensely COVID-19 had impacted her training, which had obviously taken a toll on her game. After the restrictions were eased, she started practicing again. To win the championship, she had trained day and night vigorously to get back in form.
Message for the Women in Pakistan
Mahnoor also shared a message for women in Pakistan who wish to play badminton. She said they should reach out to the government facilities in their respective cities where coaches will help them, such as the Nizamabad sports complex in Karachi and National Coaching Center. “If there are no facilities available, girls should try to maintain their fitness,” added Mahoor.
She also emphasized the role of media plays to motivate women, such as her, by covering the news of local championships happening in Pakistan so that the women and the sport itself get recognized.
