The government-owned budget airline Fly Dubai has announced that it will begin its international flights in Pakistan’s Skardu Valley.
FlyDubai has become the first international airline that has been granted international status by CAA to fly direct international flights to Skardu.
In light of the recent enthusiasm displayed by tourists, authorities have made efforts to improve travel spots and routes, one of which is enabling international flights to land in Skardu directly. In August, reports revealed that the Skardu airport’s new runway is in the making for this reason. It is one of the world’s highest altitude airports, located between the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges.
Strengthen Country’s Economy & Boost Tourism
Khaqan Murtaza, the Director-General of the Civil Aviation of Pakistan, Flt. Lt. (r), said that the initiation of international flight operations at the Skardu International Airport would boost tourism and strengthen the country’s economy.
Earlier, Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flew to Skardu from Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. In April, the two weekly flights from Lahore to Skardu were initiated. In May, the flights begin from Karachi.
According to Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Skardu’s airport was upgraded to international status last week. The move is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative to increase tourism and economic growth in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The airport situated at the height of over 7,000 feet will be able to accommodate flights in the morning and evening. As per reports, it has been modified to help planes take off and land in low-visibility conditions.
In a press interview, CAA’s director-general, Khaqan Murtaza, said, “Through big planes’ operation, we are planning to promote tourism in Gilgit, Chitral, and Skardu.”
