The inaugural national competition to identify the fastest male and female athletes across various categories is set to take place on October 8 at Lahore’s Punjab Stadium. This announcement was made on Wednesday by Brigadier (Retd) Wajahat Hussain, President of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP).
Athletes from all corners of the country will compete in the event, representing different departments, provinces, and regional associations. Brigadier Wajahat emphasized the significance of the competition, stating that its purpose is to promote athletics and discover Pakistan’s top sprinters. Participants are required to be at the Punjab Stadium by 9:00 a.m. on the event day.
This event comes at an opportune moment for Pakistan, as the country continues to celebrate the achievements of Olympian Arshad Nadeem and Paralympian Haider Ali. Despite limited infrastructural support, these athletes have shone on the global stage.
The hope is that initiatives like this will uncover new talent capable of representing Pakistan internationally and that future athletes will receive better support and resources.
