From Passion to Plate: Women-Led F&B brands of Dubai
Dubai’s culinary scene is being redefined by women-led businesses that bring passion, creativity, and bold flavors to the table. From flipping burgers and crafting artisanal pizzas to curating specialty teas and perfecting traditional home-style meals, these female entrepreneurs are shaping the city’s food landscape. Each of these trailblazers has turned a personal passion into a thriving eatery. Here’s a look at the women making their mark in Dubai’s dynamic food world.
Cravings You Can’t Resist
Shaikha Eissa started flipping burgers in her kitchen, and now she runs a popular spot in Dar Wasl Mall, Dubai, by the name She Burger. Her menu has everything from classic to creative burgers. It’s a female-led business that’s built a loyal following. If you’re in Al Wasl, this is a solid place to grab a burger.
Pitfire Dubai is where you go when you’re craving a great pizza. Co-founder Michele Johnson left a 20-year HR career to start this UAE-born pizza joint with her husband, Bill—not much experience, just a love for good food. Now, it’s getting global recognition as one of the top pizza chains out there. Their pizzas blend New York and Neapolitan styles, and people can’t stop talking about them. Find them at Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster D, Lakeshore Tower.
Brew That Defines You
Boon Coffee brings Ethiopian Arabica beans to Dubai, roasting them locally. Founder Orit Mohammed started by sharing coffee with friends before turning it into a business. Growing through word of mouth, Boon Coffee now has locations in Palm Jumeirah, JLT, and more. So, all coffee afficionados craving a large Honey Iced Latte, head to this spot for a perfectly brewed blend.
Tania’s Teahouse, owned by Tania Lodi, is the go-to spot for a laid-back afternoon, serving up good vibes, friendly service, and a menu with something for everyone. Head to Dubai Hills and have a look at the food. It isn’t just fun to look at—it’s packed with flavor too. Think colorful breakfast plates, cheeky dish names, and a few healthy twists. The All I Avo Wanted swaps toast for a sweet potato slice topped with smashed avocado. Got a sweet tooth? Try the Unicorn Cheesecake with rainbow layers or the classic scones with jam and cream – perfect for an all-day tea break. Pair it with your favorite brew—tea, coffee, or a latte.
Tantalizing Tastes of Dubai
Chef Salam Dakkak runs Bait Maryam in JLT’s Lakeshore Tower, inspired by her mom, Maryam. You’ll find her in the kitchen or chatting with guests, serving up home-style meals. Before this, she ran a school and taught cooking in Saudi. Now, from her restaurant in Cluster D, she’s bringing classic Arabian flavors to Dubai, sticking to her mom’s old-school Jordanian recipes, including those of manakish, falafel, and lamb chops.
LOWE is a popular breakfast spot at KOA Canvas in Dubai, run by former journalist Kate Christou. The menu has crumpets, almond milk waffles, and more. Hungry? Go for the aged ribeye steak with fried eggs, or cumin spiced lamb. The space is simple and open, with a wood oven, grill, and rotisserie in view.
Michelin Selects
Dubai’s first female-led restaurant, Fi’lia, run by Chef Célia Stoecklin, serves up honest, family-style Italian food with a twist. Think handmade pasta, rustic breads, and cheesy firewood pizzas—all crafted by an all-female team of talented chefs. Must-tries? The classic Margherita with fresh buffalo mozzarella, and the branzino in salt crust (perfect for sharing). Perched on the 70th floor of SLS Dubai, Fi’lia offers stunning views—so grab a terrace table in winter and soak it all in.
Tucked near The Onyx Tower, Kinoya is a dream come true for Dubai’s very own ‘ramen queen,’ Neha Mishra. From sold-out supper clubs to her first restaurant, she’s now serving up the ultimate izakaya experience—good food, good vibes, no fuss. Must-tries? Spicy miso ramen, sushi, and stir-fried rice. With a ramen counter, chef’s table, open dining, and cozy rooms, Kinoya is always buzzing—so book ahead.

The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has called for addressing the root causes of migration through sector-specific programs and local development initiatives.
The recommendation was made in a study titled “Perilous Journeys: Unravelling Irregular Migration from Pakistan,” launched by NCHR in collaboration with the International Organisation on Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The report calls for dedicated awareness units in smuggling-prone areas, awareness campaigns, special investigation units within districts, investment in training systems to enhance human capital development and fiscal benefits, and improved stakeholder coordination and data sharing.
The report also recommends clarifying responsibilities among law enforcement agencies, establishing well-defined pathways for regular migration, inter-institutional coordination, poverty alleviation, and literacy promotion among vulnerable communities, enhancing the prospects of safe, orderly, and regular migration accommodating diverse skills, and providing incentives to retain high-skilled professionals in the country.
Speaking on this occasion, Chairperson NCHR, Rabiya Javeri Agha said that the Commission, through this report, aims to comprehensively examine the landscape of irregular migration originating from Pakistan. “It starkly underscores the perils associated with irregular migration, often facilitated by unscrupulous agents exploiting vulnerable individuals.”
Senator Quratulain Marri appreciated the efforts of NCHR and said that “it is Imperative to view the issue of irregular migration with a humanitarian lens because it has a profoundly human cost.”
On behalf of IOM, Mr. Suhail Hussain said that The World Migration Report 2024, recently launched by IOM, highlights that 281 million people are international migrants. Today’s report launch brings to light the human stories behind irregular migration. It urges us to move beyond seeing migration only through a security lens and instead recognize the human rights at stake.
The report says that the primary driver of migration from Pakistan is economic opportunity, along with factors such as job availability, education access, and social networks influencing destination choices. It says that a significant portion of Pakistan’s population expresses a desire to leave the country, particularly in Urban areas.
In his closing remarks, Honourable Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry commended the NCHR report on irregular migration for its in-depth insights, he said that “while a legal framework exists, cohesive and targeted efforts are essential for effective implementation. This report provides a valuable foundation to strengthen action against irregular migration and protect vulnerable communities.”
The report mentions that Pakistani authorities while noting the complexity of measuring irregular migration, have highlighted a new route via Dubai to Egypt or Libya leading to Europe. In the first half of 2023, around 13,000 left Pakistan for Libya or Egypt. Notably, about 10,000 of these migrants have not returned.
The report further states that in 2022, Pakistan was not even among Europe’s top ten countries for migration. “However, by mid-2023, it became the tenth most prominent, with arrivals reaching 8778 December. This surge reflects factors such as political and economic uncertainty, terrorist attacks, inflation, and declining education and job opportunities. Furthermore, the devastating floods in 2023 worsened economic prospects, with forecasts predicting a slowdown to 2.8 percent growth,” says the report.
It recommends that efforts to address irregular migration require a multifaceted approach involving collaboration among government agencies, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders. It says that by addressing the underlying factors driving migration and ensuring the protection of migrants’ rights, policymakers can work towards creating a more secure and prosperous future for individuals and communities affected by irregular migration.

Coldplay Breaks Billions Club Record on Spotify & Takes Over FC Barcelona Jerseys
Spotify is once again bringing together record-breaking legends from the worlds of music and football, through its first-of-its-kind partnership with FC Barcelona.
This time, FC Barcelona’s shirt will feature the logo of Coldplay, inspired by their 10th album, Moon Music, released October 4th, which debuted at number 1 on Spotify’s weekly global charts.
This month, Coldplay has also made history by breaking the record for the most songs, by one group, to surpass a billion streams on Spotify.
To honor this accomplishment, Spotify featuring Coldplay on the FC Barcelona shirt swap is a nod to their track “Viva la Vida,” one of Barca’s unofficial anthems during the 2008-2009 season. As of Wednesday, October 16th, Coldplay’s 2002 hit “Clocks” became the 12th song from the band’s discography to receive the streaming honor. Other songs in Coldplay’s discography holding the Billions Club record include “Yellow,” “A Sky Full of Stars,” and “Sparks” to name a few.
Like FC Barcelona, Coldplay brings together fans from across the world. This moment celebrates the unity of humanity and the joy felt in shared experiences – whether that be a football match or a music concert. As an example of how the band unites people from across the world, the Moon Music logo that will feature on the FC Barcelona shirt was inspired by a design from a Coldplay fan.
The shirt will be worn for the El Clásico match when FC Barcelona takes on Real Madrid on Oct 26th. Also wearing the shirt will be FC Barcelona Femení in their Liga F match against Eibar on Nov 2.
FC Barcelona will also share a special edition of the popular Barça Matchday playlist on Spotify featuring themed songs to motivate the players and fans in the build up to the game, which was curated by Coldplay.
Coldplay said: “We’re honored that Spotify has chosen to feature our Moon Music design on the shirt of FC Barcelona. We’ve had a special relationship with the city and the club for many years. We’re also proud to support the UNHCR in their life-saving work to protect refugees and displaced people around the world. Heartfelt thanks to Spotify and FC Barcelona for making this happen.”
Speaking about the partnership, Marc Hazan, Vice President of Partnerships and Marketing, Spotify said: “Coldplay is one of the most beloved bands in the world on Spotify, and their storied connection to Barça runs deep. We are thrilled to celebrate that history with fans worldwide through the iconic Barça jersey. The release of Moon Music is a perfect moment to celebrate the power of football and music’s ability to bring people together.”
Juli Guiu, VP of Marketing, FC Barcelona said: “We are delighted that through our partnership with Spotify, Coldplay will feature on the FC Barcelona shirt for El Clásico. The band and the club have a mutual love which stretches back many years from the band visiting training sessions, to Barça players watching Coldplay live in Barcelona over the years, to the band’s music soundtracking some of the club’s best moments.”
The partnership between Barça and Spotify is a first-of-its-kind – you can read more about the partnerships here and check out the FC Barcelona hub on Spotify.
