- First Women-Focused Tech Park: Pakistan will launch its first women-centric software technology park in Azad Kashmir by February, aiming to reduce the gender digital divide and boost female participation in the tech industry.
- Government Initiative for IT Growth: The park is part of a broader plan to establish 10 software technology parks nationwide by next year, featuring incubation centers to support startups and expand IT exports.
- Empowering Women in Tech: Currently, women make up 20% of the workforce in PSEB-supported parks. The initiative aligns with efforts to create equal opportunities, foster employment, and enhance Pakistan’s digital economy.
Pakistan is set to launch its first women-focused software technology park in Azad Kashmir, with plans to inaugurate the facility by February. The initiative aims to reduce the digital gender gap in the region and encourage greater female participation in the tech sector.
The announcement was made following the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) meeting, chaired by Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The meeting reviewed the performance of the country’s IT industry and discussed strategies to enhance its growth.
This project is part of a larger government initiative, introduced in May, to establish 10 new software technology parks across Pakistan by next year, including one in Islamabad. These parks will provide incubation centers and other resources to foster innovation, boost IT exports, and create startup opportunities.
“The establishment of the software technology park in Azad Kashmir demonstrates our commitment to empowering women and ensuring their active involvement in Pakistan’s digital economy,” stated Minister Khawaja in an official press release.
Currently, women represent 20% of the workforce in PSEB-supported technology parks, which employ over 18,000 professionals across 43 locations in Pakistan. Since 2020, PSEB has facilitated over 10,000 job placements through specialized training, certification, and internship programs.
The PSEB plans to empower 25,000 freelancers by 2027 by creating 250 e-Employment Centers, aiming to further strengthen Pakistan’s IT industry on both domestic and international fronts.
