Pakistani transgender woman Saro Imran from Multan has completed her M.Phil degree in Commerce. This makes her the third trans person in Pakistan with 18 years of education and 1st in her region.
Saro studied at the Bahauddin Zakaria University in her home city, Multan. The topic for her research paper for her M.Phil degree was ‘How to start a transgender business in Pakistan, business development objectives and challenges.’ During her time of education, Saro, like most transgender individuals, became a target of society. However, she didn’t let that bring her down. Instead, she focused on her goals and achieved them. Her family has played a tremendous role in where she is today.
Since the news of her receiving M.Phil has gone viral, she and her efforts have been recognized. She received an appreciation award as M.Phil qualified transgender from Mrs. Governor Punjab (Madam Parveen Sarwar), Madam Uzma Kardar – MPA, and Madam Kaneez Fatima Chadhar – Chairperson PWPA government of Punjab.
Saro wrote in a tweet, ” Education is the movement from darkness to light.”

She also received an award from the honorable Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi, for completing 18 years of education as a transgender woman in Pakistan.

She wrote in a tweet that her success is the success of the whole transgender community of Pakistan. “We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow trans sisters. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can,” Saro wrote in a tweet
Saro also won the grant award for the education of transgender youth from Muslim Charity UK.

The transgender community of Pakistan has suffered over the years.
