On Sunday, the federal minister of Pakistan for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry announced that Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan would be held on the 14th of May, Friday, according to the calendar and the Ruet app.
According to the Ruet app (used for moon sighting) and the calendar, the moon will appear on May 13, and Eid will be on May 14, says the information minister. However, the minister also tweeted and said that while the app has given its prediction, the final decision is in this regard will be announced by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan is the department that announces the sighting of the new moon. The committee is lead by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, helped by 150 observatories of the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Every year, the committee will come together on the 29th Roza on May 12 to sight the Eid-ul-Fitr moon.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Makes the Final Call!
The meeting is set to take place in Islamabad, with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad leading over it. Based on the committee’s decision, the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr either on the 13th or 14th of May. On the other hand, the zonal committees meeting will be held in their respective areas. Later, the central committee will gather witnesses from across the country.
Eid-ul-Fitr to be Celebrated in a Complete Lockdown
Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan will be celebrated in a complete lockdown again to curb the Coronavirus. In many parts of the country, the government had already called a complete lockdown from the 8th of May till the 16th of May.
Exemptions during 8-16 May 21: (1/2)
1. Groceries shops, Bakeries and Sweet shops are allowed to remain open on daily basis till 06:00 pm for the duration from 8 – 16 May 21.

During the lockdown, grocery shops, bakeries, and sweet shops are allowed to remain open daily till 6:00 om for the duration from 8 – 16 May ’21.
