We all know how social media can easily spread negativity, self-hatred, biased beliefs, racism and other hateful content.

However, there are also a few social media influencers who use platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to promote activism and positive content. There are a number of local and international Instagram accounts that can connect you some incredible people and inspiring content.

So, if you looking for such blogs that restore your confidence, provide information on women’s right or talk about social issues important to women, check out the following five accounts :

Adaptive-Tec

ZHK Designs

This account is all about women empowerment and informing young girls about equal rights. With its informative content, it will definitely help you to understand your role in South Asian society and channel your inner girl power.

Here are the few posts that we totally loved from ZHK Designs

As we post and share resources, it’s extremely important to reflect on racism within the South Asian community as well. While we all want to be supportive and effective allies, one step is calling out anti-black comments, colourism and blatantly racist comments within our own community. Gathered from numerous sources, here are some ways we can all tackle racism and anti-blackness in desi households. Having conversations and discussions to dismantle “traditional” views will be a process, however one way in which the South Asian community to support the Black community is eradicating any form of racism or colourism. I realize that traditional south Asian households hold bias and prejudice against the Black community, however it is ESSENTIAL to tackle these issues as we are a part of the problem and the only way to fix that is to call it out. Other resources can be found on @southasians4blacklives, @southasiansmh, and @shebanimal ✨ sharing posts just isn’t enough, start discussions with your family and friends, sign petitions, donate (even the smallest donation counts), and call out racism when you see/hear it. If you have any tools/resources to tackle racism in our community, please share them.

The lives that have been taken away matter. Everyone who fights against oppression and systematic injustice matter. These lives matter, and it is essential to works towards a more cohesive community so that heinous and injustice acts are no longer tolerated, and ever life that matters is protected. While we can illustrate, post and share about every recent death and every hardship, we must do more as a community. So how can the South Asian community support and aid the Black community? Not only can we support our peers by checking up on them, we need to dismantle the way we think and build a new system in which we protect without the use of police. Here are some ways in which the South Asian Community can support our Black community: * Get to know the people in your neighbourhood, so that you create strong bonds, learn about others living near you, and you can depend on one another in a tough situation rather than calling 911 if it is not safe. * Understand that depending on the police is not always the right choice. As seen numerous times, police brutality is extremely real and extremely prevalent in each country. Dismantling the idea that the police will protect you is a way you can support the Black community. Find other resources like humanitarian organizations, peer groups or neighbours for help, rather than the police. * The South Asian community can donate towards mutual aid funds. * The South Asian community can sign petitions, specifically ones that punish the actors behind vicious crimes like murder in broad daylight. * The South Asian community can participate in virtual anti-racist programs and panels. * Another great tool is @southasians4blacklives, they share a lot of great tips and tools for the South Asian community to support the Black community. These are just a few things we can do as a community, if you know of any programs or any tools to help the Black community as a South Asian person, please share it as well ✨ let’s grow together and become stronger as a community ✊🏽

While we’re having this conversation, let’s discuss acceptance of melanin in our community – how do we as South Asians treat other South Asians with richer skin tones? Colourism is a huge problem and continues through South Asian households and relationships. If we want to move forward as a community, we must acknowledge that there are various types of South Asian groups, some of which derive from the black community, and colourism exists to amplify paler skin tones but diminish richer tones. It is essential to break down colourism or any sentiments towards it and work towards a more collaborative and accepting community. How can we have these conversations and what can we do to breakdown these thoughts in desi households? If you have any resources, tips or stories about colourism and tackling it, please share them. It is crucial that we make a change in our community – change starts with us.

Beauty with brains! Shubhangi Tyagi carries an intense passion for marketing as she attends up school at Drexel University. She landed a coop at SAP headquarters where she works in the Mid Marketing team creating content for companies like Google and Facebook. Although beautiful, Shubs never saw herself as a model but a content creator. She started making her own content on Instagram when she was inspired by a room filled with her father’s camera equipment. Her father is the biggest inspiration in her creating content as he is a professional photographer on the side of being an IT genius. It never fails to amaze me how brown skin comes in so many different shades and tones. Every woman I meet/know has a glow of her own, which is her glory. So why does the society constantly conspire to pit us against each other depending on our skin. The part of us that should be celebrated as our unique identity is judged to determine if we are worthy or not. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I came across this absolutely gorgeous illustration by the beautiful and talented @art.byandrea for Mother's Day and it made me wonder how lucky are we to be so diverse. How apecial are we all to have our own melanin crafted just for us. ⁣⁣ ⁣ How fortunate are we to live in age where pages like @art.byandrea and @kaali.i and influencers like @thelifeofasocialbutterfly are spreading awareness and knowledge about this discrimination. They let us know, we're not alone. You are not alone. I thank you for your brave voice.🙏🏼⁣ ⁣⁣ I want to take this moment and celebrate. Celebrate the diversity that makes us so vibrant and makes us stand out. I hope nobody ever makes you feel less because of your skin, and if they do, I hope you remember that they're full of sh*t because you're gold baby…SOLID GOLD👑⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #AllShadesAreBeautiful⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Time to feel more like you and less like what society expects. "Dear Society, let's start with not playing the Feminist card. I'm asking for equality.⁣ I'm asking why can't I be brown and be called beautiful?? If I'm skinny doesn't mean I'm not eating appropriate amount of food. I'm satisfying myself, maybe it's genetics, but that doesn't mean I'm starving myself.⁣ You don't even realise how much you're hurting someone by passing your worthless comments, how much their mental health is affected. They may be smiling, laughing, doing all sort of normal things. But when they are home, they lock themself up in the room and cry for hours, not understanding where they really went wrong?⁣ A point comes where we start hating ourselves and get locked in a dark place.. where we don't want to interact with people….⁣ You make fun of people for being themselves and then say "sorry bro was just jokin, don't take it seriously, why are you being so kiddish."⁣ I may be a moron, but you'll never realise how it feels to hear that everyday.⁣ I'm blind folded, because I've heard and seen enough of the torture every girl, every boy, and every gender has to face everyday for being themselves.⁣ Having pimples, being dark, skinny, fat, short, bald etc; giving judgements all the time about how we are and what we deserve… You need to realise that beauty is not it's all about.⁣ It's also about your confidence, your kindess, your humanity and your inner self.⁣ ⁣ We’re not broken. We’re not in the wrong bodies. We’re not inadequate. We’re not lesser. We’re not unwanted. We’re not fraudulent. We’re not undesirable.
