During a recent episode of Nida Yasir’s morning show ‘Good Morning Pakistan,’ Sadia Imam, along with Sana Askari and Nadia Khan, joined the show. The dynamic conversation covered a number of topics, but the focal point of the show emerged when Sadia Imam candidly shared her insights, shedding light on the toxic facets of our societal culture. She bravely delved into the negativity and criticism she has encountered throughout her life.
Sadia Imam Talks About Her Experience After Delivery
She along with Nadia Khan highlighted the topic of childbirth amongst our society and the double standards that people including the husbands hold during this difficult time. Sadia Imam shared her experience of giving birth in Germany, where she gave birth to her daughter Meerub. She mentioned how vulnerable and difficult it was as she was discharged on the same day after the birth.
“I reached home and my husband asked me whether I would cook or he should order something.”
Sadia said she was extremely shocked and annoyed to hear this. Her husband further added, “Abhi toh tumhara nakhra chalega”. It is important to note that it seems like desi men do not understand the pain and hardships that a woman goes through while giving birth. Therefore, they expect them to resume all their ‘duties’ immediately after.
“Mainay kahan main nahi bana rahi, jao lekar aao!”
Sadia recalls telling him to order food, since she literally just gave birth!
This speaks volumes about the absurd expectations that societies have from women. Rather than providing a foundation of strong support during challenging times, the conversation often centres around unrealistic demands imposed on women, especially in the aftermath of childbirth.
Former morning show queen, Nadia Khan also spoke up on the matter and talked about the immense pressure that women always face after marriage and before and after having children.
“Right after you have a child, people will begin questioning your choices and will ask you when the next baby is coming. If you have two girls, they will begin pressuring you on having a third child for a ‘boy’”

“People said I wouldn’t get married now that I had entered showbiz or I would marry a married/divorced man with kids.”

Advice on How to Stand Firm Amidst Criticism
In response to Nida Yasir’s query about imparting advice to individuals who haven’t yet developed resilience while facing criticism in their daily lives, Sadia and Nadia emphasized the importance of women learning to stand up for themselves. Both Sadia and Nadia stressed that women should cultivate the ability to stand up for their convictions.
Expanding on this, Nadia Khan suggested that rather than succumbing to daily emotional turmoil, a woman should carve out her identity in a manner that communicates to others that she is capable of responding strongly if faced with criticism.
