In the recently published 2024 QS Asia University Rankings, only three universities from Pakistan were included, sparking concerns about the prevailing state of educational standards in the nation.
In contrast, India has emerged as the leader with the highest number of universities securing positions among the top institutions in Asia, surpassing China by having 148 universities featured in the rankings.
While 15 Pakistani universities made the list last year, the count has drastically declined to only three this year. Quaid-i-Azam University claimed the top position among Pakistani institutions, securing the 86th spot in the rankings.
This university stands as the sole representative from Pakistan in the top 100 of the rankings. Additionally, it holds the 315th position in the 2024 QS World University Rankings.
The other two Pakistani institutions mentioned in the 2024 QS Asia University Rankings are Iqra University, Karachi, and Allama Iqbal Open University. These institutions were placed in the 301-350 and 801+ brackets, respectively.
Perking University secured the top spot in the rankings, closely followed by The University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore (NUS). The remaining universities in the top 10 list include:
- Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore)
- Tsinghua University
- Zhejiang University
- Fudan University
- Yonsei University
- Korea University
- The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
