On Thursday, Kanwal Naseer, the first female anchor, first female newscaster, and first female announcer of Pakistan Television, passed away at the age of 73 after a brief illness whilst she was in Islamabad.
She was a radio and TV artist and renowned broadcaster. She was the daughter of famous radio artist Mohini Hameed (Apa Shamim) and mother-in-law of PTI Secretary Information Ahmed Jawad.
Naseer was born in Lahore in 1948. She was appreciated and loved by her fans, who were sad after hearing of her demise. PTV Home took it to the micro-blogging site to announce the departure of Pakistan Televisions’s first drama artist and announcer.

Kanwal was being treated at a private hospital for some time. According to a source, she had diabetes and passed away due to cardiac arrest.

At the mere age of 17, Kanwal joined the media. On the 26th of November, 1964, she made her first announcement on PTV.
After that, there was no stopping. Kanwal remained associated with PTV and Radio Pakistan for 50 years.
The government of Pakistan has recognized her efforts and conferred her with the Pride of Performance and numerous other national awards for her services.
