Ayla Majid, the CEO of a company specializing in decarbonization, sustainability, and energy transition advisory, made history this week as the first South Asian and Muslim to be elected president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). During her one-year term, Majid will oversee over 252,500 members and 526,000 future members in 180 countries, according to ACCA’s announcement.
Majid is currently the founder and CEO of Planetive Middle East and Planetive Pakistan, with over 20 years of expertise in energy, transaction advisory, mergers and acquisitions, investments, and corporate governance. She holds an MBA from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and a Bachelor of Law from the University of London.
In an email to Arab News, Majid expressed her pride in this achievement, describing it as a significant moment for herself and others who see it as a symbol of breaking barriers. She highlighted that her election reflects ACCA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and emphasized the importance of resilience and representation in leadership roles.
