On the 28th of November, governments across the globe rushed to ban travel from chosen countries to contain the new and heavily mutated COVID-19 variant. The variant has now been named Omicron and is referred to as highly infectious. This variant may force the world to impose restrictions on travel and the daily lives of citizens once again, which many hoped was a thing of the past.
Israel has already slammed its borders shut to Australia and foreign nationals. The developments were made after the first case of the variant was reported in Australia. Several other countries, including Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have also announced that they will be restricting travel from southern Africa, where the variant was first detected.
On the other side, scientists are working day in and day out to determine whether the newly found strain can evade existing vaccines.
