Superintendent of Police (SP) Beenish Fatima has been appointed as the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Rawalpindi, making history as the first woman to hold this position in the city since the establishment of the City Traffic Police in 2007. She replaces Taimoor Khan, who served as CTO since November 2022 and was warmly farewelled by his colleagues upon his departure.
Fatima, who is also the daughter-in-law of a former Inspector General of Police Punjab, becomes the third woman in Punjab to hold a CTO position, joining Ammara Athar, CTO Lahore, and Aisha Butt, CTO Gujranwala.
Upon assuming her new role, Fatima was received with a formal salute by a contingent at the Traffic Headquarters. During her initial days in office, she met with Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), branch in-charges, and other staff members. She emphasized the importance of professional integrity and urged her team to maintain a respectful and courteous demeanor towards citizens, particularly focusing on the needs of elderly citizens and women.
Fatima’s career in law enforcement includes a tenure as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) with the Islamabad Police. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the evolving role of women in law enforcement and other professions in Pakistan.
In her first address, Fatima encouraged aspiring professionals to pursue their careers with dedication and a strong work ethic, emphasizing that success is not solely based on academic achievements but also on perseverance and integrity.
