On Friday, Pakistan Women’s captain Nida Dar became the highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals during the second match against England at County Ground, Northampton.
Despite Dar’s achievement, Pakistan lost the three-match series after England secured a 65-run victory. All-rounder Alice Capsey was named player of the match for her 31 runs and two wickets.
Recently, Dar also became the second Pakistani bowler to reach 100 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). In the match against England, she surpassed Australian swing bowler Megan Schutt by taking two wickets for 33 runs in her four overs.
Dar had been on the brink of this milestone during Pakistan’s home series against the West Indies but went wicketless in the first T20 match against England.
Although the Pakistan team didn’t perform well and lost the series 3-0, Pakistani skipper Nida Dar was pleasantly surprised by the support her team received at all three venues.
The support from the crowd on this tour has been amazing. The grounds have been quite full, which is not something we often see outside of global tournaments. We’ve really enjoyed the fans’ support and appreciation, and it feels great. Overall, the focus on women’s cricket around the world has been strong, and female cricketers definitely needed that for more exposure, she said.
Match Summary: England won the toss and chose to bat first, with contributions from Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, and Nat Sciver-Brunt, leading them to a total of 144 runs in their 20 overs. The team scored 48 runs in the power play, and Bouchier fell at 66 after the halfway mark. Sciver-Brunt hit six fours in her 21-ball innings, maintaining a strike rate of 147.
Daniel Gibson added 18 runs off nine balls, including two fours and a six, pushing England past the 140-run mark. Dar’s record-breaking wicket came in the final over when she dismissed Amy Jones on the first ball.
In response, Pakistan struggled, losing their first wicket for just eight runs. Sidra Ameen, Aliya Riaz, and Muneeba Ali were the only players to reach double figures. Sophie Ecclestone was England’s standout bowler, taking three wickets in three overs.
Hats-off to Dar for her amazing achievement.
