Pakistan Pavilion’s facade, designed by Rashid Rana, has won the ‘Best Pavilion Exterior Design’ at Dubai Expo 2020.
Rana is a Pakistani artist who has been part of numerous exhibitions held in Pakistan and overseas. His work comprises abstractions on canvas, collaborations with billboard painters, photographic/video performances, collages using found material, photo mosaics, photo sculptures and large stainless steelworks have all been displayed in these exhibitions.
His talent was displayed in front of the world at the Dubai Expo 2020 platform. He had the opportunity to design the facade of the Pakistan Pavilion, which he transformed into one of the most significant works of its kind. “The artistic intervention, titled Unity of All that Appears, comprises twenty-four thousand seemingly identical yet, in fact, unique pieces, fractionally different from each other in size and colour.”
For Rana, the work draws inspiration from the diversity of Pakistan: “It takes after the seasonal transitions in Pakistan and diversity it has to offer — geographically, climatically, culturally, ethnically and racially.”
The Pakistan Pavilion would also like to congratulate Pakistan's most celebrated artist and the exterior designer of The Pakistan Pavilion, Mr. @RashidRanaRR, on receiving the Sitara -E- Imtiaz (civilian award) in recognition of his achievements in the field of fine art.

Interestingly, the Pakistan Pavilion only has one entrance, and then you can exit only once you have taken a complete tour; before that, you can’t turn back. It comprises narrow passages and open spaces and is divided into eight parts. The estimated cost of the Pakistani pavilion is $21.4 million. Just recently, Rana has also received Sitara-e-Imtiaz (civilian award) to recognise his achievements in the field of fine art.
