After Ramadan ends, Muslims across the globe celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after fasting for 30 days. The celebration takes place for three days where people from different countries prepare different kinds of Eid specialties to celebrate the occasion. The celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr mainly revolves around giving little ones Eidi and enjoying food, so friends and family come together to devour exquisite dishes.
We have listened down below 10 dishes that are specially prepared on Eid-ul-Fitr around the globe by Muslims:
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh: Sheer Khurma
Sheer Khurma is a fairly popular dish in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to serve on Eid. It is creamy, sweet, and everything delicious. It is made out of toasted vermicelli-Esque noodles cooked in creamy sweet milk. Most people like to serve it with a choice of nuts such as pistachio and almonds. Other than that, dried dates also make their way on top for decoration.
Afghanistan: Bolani
Bolani is an Afghani flatbread stuffed with leafy greens, such as spinach, potatoes, pumpkin, or lentils. Eid in Afghanistan is primarily a child-oriented celebration; however, when it comes to food, it is a family affair.
UK: Biryani
Biryani is a classic dish prepared in the UK. The dish is prepared with a choice of protein, rice, and lots of spices. It is probably a favorite dish of many, mainly served with pickles, raita, and kachumber salad.
Malaysia: Rendang
Rendang is a spicy coconut curry cooked with various meat options. Many spicy dishes are prepared on Eid in Malaysia; however, rendang is of the most favorite dishes prepared and devoured occasionally.
Yemen: Aseeda
Aseeda, also known as aseed is a popular Yemeni jelly-like dish primarily prepared from wheat and honey. The dish is usually served hot and is wiped clean within minutes. Aseeda is also widely accepted by neighbors on Eid.
Russia: Manti
Manti is basically a fancy name for dumplings. However, Russians make special fillings for Eid with beef and lamb. The recipes vary from region to region but are widely eaten on Eid-ul-Fitr.
China: You Xiang
China has quite a Muslim population who celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr just like the rest of the world. Their special Eid-ul-Fitr dishes include You Xiang, which is a simple fried snack made with flour. This may be served with soup sometimes. Young people visit elders to enjoy the snack prepared by them.
Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq: Butter Cookies
Despite the violence in the region, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Iraq, Eid is celebrated with zeal. Palestinians call their butter cookies graybeh and like to include pine nuts or almonds in the recipe, while Syrians and Lebanese call their butter cookies mamoul, and their recipes include walnuts or dates. Iraq calls their butter cookies klaicha, while Egypt calls them kahk; this version of the cookie is filled with honey-based stuffing.
Indonesia: Lapis Legit
Lapis legit is a 1000 layered spice cake, all thanks to Dutch colonization; this cake is prepared on Eid to celebrate the occasion. Each layer is prepared separately from poured and broiled batter. Later, it is assembled into the finished product.
Morocco: Laasida and Tagine
In Morocco, the day begins with Laasida (similar to a rice pudding but consists of butter, honey, seasoning, and couscous.) and ends with Tagine. The traditional dish is mostly made out of chicken, but on Eid, people love to cook more expensive protein such as mutton meat with dried fruits.
