Aisha Mughal becomes the first transgender women lecturer in Pakistan. She is highly qualified, and so she became a lecturer at the Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad.
Mughal has completed her high school education in Oman and moved back to Pakistan. Here, she completed her BBA and her Master’s degree from COMSATS university.
Today, she is recognized by many titles listed on her Twitter profile, including Activist, Researcher, and Educational Trainer. She is also the Director Programmes at Wajood Society. Due to her humanitarian work, she was able to join the Ministry of Human Rights of Pakistan and works as a “Transgender rights expert,” which again makes her the first transgender person to be appointed in a Federal Ministry in the country.
She is also the world’s first Transgender Woman to represent the Pakistani Government at the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) Committee in Geneva. This made Pakistan the first country to have a legally recognized transgender woman in its delegation. Aisha was also a member of the National Task Force on the Transgender Bill.
A decade ago, people openly mocked transgender individuals for their identity, ways of earning, behavior, and existence – society didn’t accept them as one of us at large. The state didn’t recognize them so much that they weren’t even issued a national ID card. A decade later, the trans community has finally started working in different fields towards creating a positive image for themselves. Aisha Mughal is no less than a reflection of this transition.
